The Story about the First Apple Product I Bought, What Was Yours?

I have been using Apple products since 2012 as long as I can remember. The first product I purchased was iPad 3, a standard model with a 16GB of internal storage and a Wi-Fi connectivity.

At such specification, the iPad 3 was one of affordable Apple products I could buy. I remembered its price was Rp5 millions and something. I bought it at an Apple Premium Reseller, which I believe no longer existed, in Bandung.

I actually wanted to have an iPhone as many of my students had (yes, their parents were very rich). But as everyone knows, iPhone is not a cheap smartphone.

Even until now, new iPhones cost a hand and a leg. That means you need to sell one of your kidneys to have one if you are willing to do so (highly not recommended).

But believe me, selling your kidney for an iPhone is so unwise. That will make you stay in bed forever aka paralyzed as that happened to a die hard Apple user in China. Or, you’ll even end up six feet under.

But at that time, I couldn’t afford an iPhone since it was so expensive. Though I couldn’t buy an iPhone, the iPad was literally an iPhone in big screen without cellular connectivity. At least, I had Apple product and I was happy to have the iPad.

I like doing so many things with my iPad such as browsing, reading news, and tweeting. It even helped so much when I was teaching English in class, which was something unfamiliar to teachers to use a tablet when teaching.

I could do the student assessments with ease on my iPad since there were a lot of education apps available on the App Store. At that time, I used Teacher Kit app and that was a good app for teachers. I believe it’s still available.

The iPad also helped to be a content writer. My Facebook friend from Morocco asked me to write articles about tech in English for his blog for a couple of time. I had a laptop, but I wrote the articles mostly on my iPad.

That writing experience became my portfolio to work for a well-known news site focusing on Apple technology. Then I decided to resign in 2013 as a English teacher to do something I like doing besides teaching English.

In my second job, I then had a chance to use a Mac. It was a legendary MacBook white. I really loved working with the computer due to its different and smooth user experience.

Months later, I could buy an iPhone 5. The price was more expensive than the iPad 3 I had back then. Interestingly, the iPhone is still working until now.

It never had a serious issue except the battery that is aging overtime. 2 to 3 years, I need to change the battery. iPhone 5 was my favorite iPhone in terms of design.

Into many things, tech mostly. Didn’t I say Apple?
